Heating (solid lines) or cooling (dashed lines) due to various elements and levels along the planet-star line (x > 0, expressed as a pressure). The upper panel shows the main considered elements of interest. The ground and excited levels of hydrogen are distinguished, whereas for other elements, all simulated levels are combined. The “sum” line indicates the accuracy of the overall balance between heating and cooling achieved in simulation. The gray line shows the temperature profile. The center and bottom panels show the heating or cooling contribution of excited magnesium (top), oxygen, and carbon (bottom), respectively.
