Geometry of the PLATO field FOV. In this figure, the field is centered at the origin (0,0) of a generic spherical reference frame (units are degrees; projection is orthographic). The number of “normal” cameras covering a given line of sight is color coded. The four blue shades, from dark to light, map the regions covering 325/153/847/824 deg2 observed respectively with 24, 18, 12, six cameras (and corresponding to four, three, two, and one group of six co-pointing telescopes each).
