Luminosity sequence illustrating the properties of spectral type B1. The SB nature of σ Sco is not perceived in this spectrum. In fact, the differences with respect to β CMa are subtle. β CMa is the only primary standard with an intermediate luminosity class in the B-type range. See Fig. A.2 for a more luminous supergiant.
