Distance to a massive companion (mass ratio = 1/4) of disc and lenticular descendant unbarred galaxies that formed bar and did not undergo a major merger (orange line) versus unbarred galaxies that did not undergo a major merger as a function of time since z = 1. The environment does not seem to not play a role in the likelihood that a disc or lenticular galaxy will form a bar.
