Simulated and measured on-axis Κ band performance of the AO system for NGS and LGS modes as a function of guide star magnitude in a dark sky. At the very faint end, excess background leads to a lower performance than predicted; significant lunar illumination will also have an impact. Performance in other wavebands can be inferred from the associated wavefront error (for estimations of specific situations and conditions, see the online Exposure Time Calculator). More information about the AO system and a detailed breakdown of its performance are given in Riccardi et al. (in prep.).
