Distribution of measured cycle times tcyc and residence time in the photosphere trt with a Monte Carlo framework at 40 au with α = 10−2. The cycle time can be approximated with an inverse-Gaussian distribution. The mean-residence time is dominated by short timescales corresponding to an immediate mixing down into the quiet layer after reaching the photosphere.
