Face-on and side-on views of the spatial distribution of the DIB λ862 for the whole HQ sample plotted over the Milky Way sketch created by Robert Hurt and Robert Benjamin (Churchwell et al. 2009). Median EW₈₆₂ are taken from 0.1 kpc  ×  0.1 kpc bins in XY, XZ, and YZ planes, respectively. The Galactic centre is located at (X, Y, Z)=(−8, 0, 0). The coloured lines represent the Galactic log-periodic spiral arms described by the parameters from Reid et al. (2019): Scutum–Centaurus arm, orange; Sagittarius–Carina arm, purple; Local arm, black; Perseus arm, green; Outer arm, cyan. The spur between the Local and Sagittarius–Carina arms is indicated by the blue line.
