Total days in a year for which the prefactor of the uncertainty ΔR in Eq. (12) is below a certain level (cyan for Uranus and blue for Neptune). Since the prefactor is directly related to the arrangement of the Sun, Earth and the spacecraft, the grey shaded areas correspond to the (d2φ/dr2) values where the Sun–Earth-spacecraft angle α is above 135° and 150°, respectively.
