HST WFC/F606W image (rest-frame UV) of 3C 186. Blue contours show the 1.3 mm continuum emission from the QSO, at levels of 0.10, 0.16, 0.40, and 1.34 mJy beam−1. Green contours correspond to the CO(4→3) emission at levels of 183, 244, 305, 366, 427, and 549 mJy km s−1 beam−1. The CO(4→3) emission is at the NLR redshift, redshifted by ∼2000 km s−1 with respect to the BLR that is co-spatial with the quasar. North is up, and east is to the left. The SF blob to the NE is highlighted.
