Projections of the Hyades and its tidal tails in Galactic Cartesian coordinates (X, Y, Z) with the Sun at the origin. The grey lines (courtesy of Stefan Meingast) denote the approximate contours of the Hyades tidal tails as simulated by Chumak et al. (2005). The trailing tail shows a peculiar bend (triangles) where stars deviate from the simple N-body model prediction. These stars are well compatible with the cluster’s space motion and agree well with the remaining cluster population based on their location in the CAMD (Fig. 29). We have no reason to assume that they do not belong to the cluster.
