Impact parameter values in units of R* for simulation run # 63 using a mid-latitude starspot distribution of an K dwarf host star with a starspot filling factor of 0.30% ± 0.15%, where starspots were detected. Left: impact parameter for simulations with a detected starspot lie close to 0.7 R and − 0.7 R (stellar latitude 45° and 135°, respectively), indicating the detected starspot was in the mid-latitude zone of the star. A few detections had a mid-range impact parameter (e.g. 0.5 R and − 0.5 R). Right: impact parameter as a function of λ for simulations with a detected starspot. Here it can be seen that the detections with a mid-range impact parameter took place when λ was larger than ±30°.
