Accretion cross-section diameter dσ dependent on the pebble radius Rpebble for an Earth-sized planet at 1 AU with wind erosion (red) and without wind erosion (black). For large pebble radii, both cases converge to an accretion cross-sectiondiameter of about 0.5rHill, which is slightly below the theoretical value (blue line) for gravitational focusing (Safronov 1972). We assume that the underestimation is caused by the close encounters that can spiral on highly eccentric orbits onto the planet, but are registered as non-accreting events when they reach a large distance from the planet.

Current usage metrics show cumulative count of Article Views (full-text article views including HTML views, PDF and ePub downloads, according to the available data) and Abstracts Views on Vision4Press platform.

Data correspond to usage on the plateform after 2015. The current usage metrics is available 48-96 hours after online publication and is updated daily on week days.

Initial download of the metrics may take a while.
