Sketch of the vertical structure in our atmospheric model. ILAY denotes each of the slabs into which the atmosphere is divided, each with thickness Hg ∕2. Gas density decreases exponentially with height. The atmosphere is assumed to contain CH4, with a certain fraction . We include acloud with optical thickness τc and a geometrical extension Δc. The positionof the cloud top is specified by τc→TOA. In addition, the aerosols of the cloud are described by their single-scattering albedo ω0 and effective-radius reff, as explainedin the text.
