Left column shows theoretical phase pattern. Here blue is π phase, white is zero phase and red is − π phase. The corresponding PSF is shown on the right with a 5 λD scale bar. Both images of the PSF are on log scale with the color scale shown on the right. The first phase pattern creates a 360 dark region for a clear aperture. The second pattern creates a one-sided dark region for a pupil that has a central obscuration and spiders.
