In both panels, the color in the background shows the horizontal divergence and the black arrows show the horizontal flows. The emergence location is shown by the white circle. Flows of less than 15 m s−1 are not shown. The model reproduces the east-west elongated converging flow seen in the observations. Unlike the observations, the model shows a retrograde flow at the emergence location.
