The sampled longitudes are ϕ = 0°, 45°, 90°, 135°, −180°, −135°, and −90°, the latitudesare at the equator and θ = 0°, 45° in the northern hemisphere. The 3D simulations assume that the southern hemisphere is similar to the northern hemisphere. The substellar point is (θ, ϕ) = (0°, 0°), the terminators are at ϕ = 90°, −90°. The sketches indicate east and west, which need to be quoted with respect to the day- or the nightside, however.
