H2 excitation diagrams for IC 63 (blue) and IC 59 (red). Two temperature fits have been applied for both nebulae. For IC 63 we find that the high column density gas (2.3 × 1020 cm−2 ) is at T = 207 ± 30 K (dashed lined), while the low column density gas (9.3 × 1017 cm−2 ) is at T = 740 ± 47 K (dotted line). For IC 59 on the other hand, we find slightly cooler temperatures: the high column density gas (1.2 × 1020 cm−2 ) is at T = 150 ± 34 K (dashed line), while the low column density gas (1.8 × 1017 cm−2 ) is at T = 675 ± 49 K (dotted line).
