Overview of the region north of the dust-lane in the Carina Nebula. The background optical image is taken with the UK Schmidt Telescope in the DSS2-red band. The locations and sizes of the two most massive star-clusters, Trumpler 14 and Trumpler 16, are marked with yellow circles (Tapia et al. 2003). The areas enclosed by the white dotted and dashed lines indicate the regions previously observed by Brooks et al. (2003) and Kramer et al. (2008). The long dashed line across the image marks the Galactic plane at b = −0.72°. The square enclosed by the solid white line indicates the FOV in this work. It spans an area of 7′ × 7′ (4.7 × 4.7 pc). A zoom-in view of the area included in the white square can be found in Fig. 2.
