Expected coverage of the Euclid Wide Survey (called the reference survey), color-coded by observing epoch, in an Aitoff projection of ecliptic coordinates. The horizontal gap corresponds to low ecliptic latitudes (the cyan line represents the ecliptic plane), and the circular gap to low galactic latitudes (the deep blue line stands for the galactic plane). The black squares filled with yellow are the calibration fields, which are to be repeatedly observed during the six years of the mission, to assess the stability and accuracy of the Euclid PSF, photometry, and spectroscopy.
