Schematic representation of the interaction of CR protons accelerated in the AGN blast wave with ISM protons. The shock radius Rs(t) expands outwards compressing the swept gas into a thin shell, and leaving a cavity inside. The γ-ray emission from neutral pion decays occurs in the regions outside the yellow cones where the lines of sight intercept the galactic gas that has not been swept out by the blast wave.
