Synthetic bisectors show spectral line asymmetries for stars hotter and cooler than the Sun. Such bisectors reflect the vigor of surface convection in the line-forming layers and differ significantly between stars of different temperature. Left to right: “F3 V”, “F7 V”, and “K8 V” are shown. Top row shows bisectors for lines of five different strengths at stellar disk centers; bottom row near the limb at μ = 0.21.
