Near-infrared VLT/HAWK-I image of A 1689 with critical lines for a source at zs = 2.0 plotted as contours for magnifications (from inside to outside) 2.0, 1.5, 1.0, and 0.75 mag. The red crosses indicate the position of the core-collapse supernovae behind A 1689 detected by our surveys, while the green circles denote those classified as Type Ia supernovae.
