Comparison between the constant and highly variable samples. In the main panel we plot the 0.2–2 keV luminosity during the XMM slew survey against redshift. Red crosses represent constant sources while the blue stars correspond to the highly variable sources. The subplots show the fraction of sources, fAGN, in the samples at each luminosity and redshift, where red bars show constant sources and blue bars variable sources.
