Red crosses: the fraction of particles lifted in a homogeneous DSMC gas outflow model with surface particle densities proportional to the local gas production rate expressed as a function of the log of the particle radius. No surface cohesive forces are included. Blue dots: the fraction of the lifted particles that then reach the outlet surface, 10 km from the center of the nucleus. The plot shows that particles ejected from the surface larger than about 1.3 mm are not accelerated by gas drag to beyond escape velocity.
