S/N gain factor as a function of cumulative addition of individually PSF-subtracted frames sorted from least to greatest individual scatter. As the frames become progressively worse, they add less and less to the final S/N, and eventually decrease the quality rather than increasing it. It follows that the best 203 frames provide the ideal ensemble to combine for optimizing the total S/N.
