Comparison between mean optical (R filter) luminosities of the analyzed BL Lac objects and their averaged optical colors BR (see Table 3). In the diagram, the color-coding denotes the Pearson’s correlation coefficient of the optical CM relation, C(BR,R), as depicted in the stripe below the panel. Different symbols here are used to denote three different types of BL Lac objects included in the sample, namely HBLs (circles), LBLs (triangles), and LBLs (stars). The error bars are evaluated as described in Sect. 2.4.
