Projected regions with large discrepancy between the proposed approach and the local low-order polynomial background modelling. Images correspond to the simulated data, the diffuse component with noise, and the point-source-subtracted data with the three approaches. SPSR in this case allows a better subtraction of the point-source contribution because the local variations in the background are not captured by the other two approaches.
