Artist’s impression of a face-on view of the Galactic plane (image credit: R. Hurt, NASA/JPL-Caltech/SSC). The Sun is placed at 8.3 kpc (Gillessen et al. 2009) from the Galactic center (0,0). The dashed line shows a direction toward 2023+335 with a galactic longitude that passes through the nearby (D ~ 1.5 kpc) Cygnus region in the Local arm, the Perseus arm (D ~ 6 kpc), and the outer arm (D ~ 10 kpc). We assume that the lens is located in the turbulent Cygnus region (dotted circle) at the distance of ~1.5 kpc.
