Upper left: Galaxy 300, an AGN excluded from the regular galaxy category because of a blue nucleus (see text). Upper right: Galaxy 557, another AGN (Demarco et al. 2005) excluded because of a blue nucleus, although it may also be merging with its neighbor to the right. Bottom: Galaxy 258, an S0/Sa-like galaxy considered compact in our analysis because of its high-surface-brightness nucleus. All images have bright nuclei, and so background levels and intensity scales were adjusted to show both the bright core and the much fainter surrounding features.
