The modes should be truncated at a value ξ0 = Ξ where the density profile vanishes, in order to satisfy the boundary conditions (39). The first zero, which represents the mode of minimum L at given Ξ, is indicated by the vertical dotted line. A mode of higher L for fixed Ξ is shown in the L = 0.03 case; for other cases higher modes can be identified in a similar way.
