Velocity ellipsoids in the solar cylinder as deduced from the velocity dispersions of Fig. 4 from two different points of view. On the left, we see the radial-azimuthal tilt of the velocity ellipsoids with respect to the direction of the Galactic centre (GC). The colours of the velocity ellipsoids refer to the height above or below the Galactic plane as indicated in the right panel (as well as in the vertical sequence of panels in Fig. 4). The right panel shows the vertical tilt of the velocity ellipsoids above and below the plane in the solar cylinder.
