Left panel: the region of SH2 as seen on a WFPC2 exposure of 5000 s (filter F555W). The objects for which photometric values are given are indicated. Object 429 is a globular cluster. The other objects in the field are either foreground stars or background galaxies. Right panel: color map in C-R of the same region, constructed from MOSAIC images with lower spatial resolution. Bright is red, dark is blue with a dynamical range 0 < C − R < 2 mag. The background color is typically C − R = 1.3, the darkest spots have C − R = 0.2 . The color map is shown with a larger scale to better demonstrate the color homogeneity of the surrounding and the blueish envelope of SH2.
