Three-color (3.6, 8, and 24 μm) Spitzer image of the southern Cygnus-X region, obtained from the Cygnus-X legacy survey (Hora et al. 2009, http://www.cfa.harvard.edu/cygnusX). The Cyg OB2 association is located at a projected distance of ~1.2° north ( ≈ 40 pc, assuming a distance of 1.4–1.6 kpc, Rygl et al. 2012). The sources observed with SOFIA (pillar, globule, IRAS 20306+4005) are as indicated.
