This plot illustrates the definition of the UCD specific frequency SN,UCD. The solid line represents a typical GC luminosity function (GCLF) in the shape of a Gaussian, centered at MV =  −7.4 mag, with a width of σ = 1.2 mag. The line becomes dashed in the magnitude range of UCDs MV <  −10.25 mag. It holds that SN,UCD = SN,GC if the luminosity distribution of UCDs follows the extrapolated GCLFs, and that SN,UCD > SN,GC if the frequency of UCDs is above the GCLF extrapolation (upper dotted line in inset), and SN,UCD < SN,GC if it is below (lower dotted line in inset).
