CAFOS BVRoeser image of the region around SN 2005nc, sized 6.7′    ×    5.0′. Because there is absolutely no galaxy at a reasonable distance from this SN, no projected distance could be attributed. The explanation for this is most likely that SN 2005nc is significantly redshifted because it was accompanied by a gamma-ray burst, GRB 050525, at a redshift of 0.61. Therefore the host galaxy is most likely too faint to be detected by a two hours exposure of a 2.2 m telescope.
