The large sensitivity gain given by coherently adding the station beams is illustrated in these two sample observations. In each observation, both the incoherent and the coherent sum of the station beams for all 12 Superterp HBA sub-stations were recorded simultaneously. The resulting profiles were then scaled so that the off-pulse noise has a standard deviation of 1. This comparison shows the expected increase in sensitivity due to coherent summation and smaller beam size (see text for details).
