Color composite (RGB) image of the M 42+M 43 region obtained from a combination of narrow band images taken with the WFC-INT (only CCDs #1, #2, and #4 are shown). The following color code was used: Hα (red), [S ii] λλ6716+30 (green), [O iii] λ5007 (blue). The field-of-view of the image is  ~22 arcmin  ×  33 arcmin. M 43 is the roundish nebulosity at the north-east of the center.
