NGC 3550, the brightest member galaxy in A1185. The image on top is displayed with a linear intensity scale and NGC 3550 appears as a single large elliptical galaxy. The logarithmic display below reveals that NGC 3550 is actually a complex system of three smaller galaxies within a common envelope.
