A statement in Sect. 4.3 is incorrect and misleading. The sentence

``Still, we emphasize that Murphy et al. (2003a) have missed about half the velocity components that we find in our data in their analysis for PKS 2145+067''.

should be replaced by

``Still, we emphasize that Churchill & Vogt (2001) have missed about half the velocity components that we find in our data in their analysis of the Mg II system for PKS 2145+067 at a resolution of $R\approx 45\,000$. However, Murphy et al. (2003a) have used unpublished Keck/HIRES spectra of similar resolution but higher S/N for their analysis of PKS 2145+067. They obtained a similar fit for the strongest components and a comparable total number of velocity components to those presented in this work (Murphy 2004)''.
