The value of $v_\odot$ is still uncertain. Dehnen & Binney (1998) have calculated $v_\odot = 5.25$ km s^-1, but Feast (2000) argues that several recent determinations give $v_\odot \sim 11$ km s^-1. We decided to use this more conservative value in our analysis.
