As remarked by P. S. Barklem (private communication), exact values for y can be derived from the theory presented in the BPO paper. Since they are given by ($1-\alpha$)/2, they are 0.162, 0.273, and 0.31 for H$_{\alpha }$, H$_{\beta}$ and H$_{\gamma}$, respectively.
