The SOPHIE search for northern extrasolar planets. II. A multiple planet system around HD9446

by G. Hébrard, X. Bonfils, D. Ségransan, C. Moutou, X. Delfosse et al., A&A 513, A69

Hebrard et al. report the discovery of a multiple planetary system around HD 9446 with the Sophie spectrometer. The system includes a 0.7 Mjup planet on a 30 day orbit and a 1.8 Mjup planet on a 193 day orbit. The authors go on to show that, for most multiple planetary systems including the one around HD 9446, the planetary masses steadily increase with distance to the parent star (see figure). This is an important constraint for formation models.
