Relative partition functions (b_i in the modified Saha equation) of the free electrons for different charge states in dense carbon plasmas at a temperature of 200 eV and the mass densities of 3, 5, 100, and 200 g cm⁻³. For each plasma condition, the partition functions are scaled relative to that of the uniform electron gas $(Z_{e} = 2 {(\frac{2 π m_{e} k T}{h^{2}})}^{3 / 2})$ $\[\left(Z_{e}=2\left(\frac{2 \pi m_{e} k T}{h^{2}}\right)^{3 / 2}\right)\]$ .
