Reproduction of the lower two panels of Figure 4 of Loi (2020a) using our implementation of the ray tracing described in Sect. 2 for the model 2A. The limits of the axes are also similar to Figure 4 of Loi (2020a). In the left column, we show the behavior of the ray with B_cen = 0.3 B_crit, cen, which is the value used by Loi (2020a). In the right column, we show how the ray behaves with B_cen = 1.2 B_crit, cen. This value has been selected such that the ray undergoes the same number of reflections as the ray shown in Figure 4 of Loi (2020a). The remaining initial parameters are identical to Loi (2020a) (i.e., θ₀ = 99°, α = 40.5°, ω = 10 ω_dyn, and l = 1).
