Comparison of fit residuals for models of different cloud LOS extent. The upper three rows correspond to Gaussian LOS density profiles with FWHM equal to 0.2, 0.5, and 0.9 pc, respectively. On the fourth row the LOS profile is based on Plummer fits to the filament profile, and the last row is the same but with the cloud a factor of three longer in the LOS direction. All calculations assume an external attenuating layer of A_V = 1^mag.
