Lifetime vs. initial solid mass of the protoplanetary discs considered in our simulations. The total mass of the disc relates to the solid mass of the disc through the gas-dust ratio. The rectangle surrounded by a black box schematically shows the parameter space explored. The grey rectangle depicts the region where giant planets do not form at all. The region of the parameter space where protoplanets reached the cross-over mass are shown in yellow for protoplanets accreting 1 km planetesimals, and in red for protoplanets accreting 0.1 km planetesimals. For bigger accreted planetesimal (100 and 10 km) no giant planets form.
