A study of the Cygnus X region by Schneider et al. (2006) suggests that these clusters and the Cyg OB2 and OB9 associations form a coherent complex and that formation of the clusters was triggered by the effect of massive stars in the associations (cf. Le Duigou & Knödlseder 2002).
