When we discuss the numerical values of $\Delta x_{\rm r}$ , we are referring to the situation where the size in Å of the pixels in x and in $x_{\rm r}$ is approximately the same. This is a natural choice, but not the only one possible. The $x_{\rm r}$ coordinate in some sense is arbitrary: it is only defined as soon as the 2D wavelength calibration (the slightly nonlinear mapping $(x,y_{\rm t}) \mapsto \lambda$ ) is used to construct an interpolated image pixelised in $(x_{\rm r},y_{\rm t})$ , where $x_{\rm r}$ is linearly-related to $\lambda$ , as $\lambda = a + bx_{\rm r}$ .
