Notes. The coordinates are taken from the USNO-B catalogue (Monet et al. 2003); the ROSAT PSPC count rates and hardness ratios HR1 and HR2 have been obtained from the ROSAT All Sky Survey (RASS) Bright Source Catalogue (Voges et al. 1999) and from the RASS Faint Source Catalogue (Voges et al. 2000); the ${\rm H\alpha }$- ${\rm H\gamma}$ and He  I  $\lambda$5876, 6678 equivalent widths (EW) and full width at half maximum (FWHM) were measured from the Calar Alto average spectra (Fig. 2) using the integrate/line task in MIDAS; the outburst of HS 1016 is uncertain (marked by a colon), as only one outburst was observed.
