We note here that the half-mass relaxation time of $t_{\rm hm} \simeq 1$Gyr quoted by Harris (1996) is most likely an over-estimate for NGC 6712. A value of 1Gyr is approximately the average $t_{\rm hm}$ for all GCs, and NGC 6712 is far less populous and smaller than the average Galactic cluster.
